TRANSFERS
Effective 1 January 2007, firearms transfer fees will be as follows:
1. We will not accept transfers from wholesale companies.
2.
Auction guns, private transactions, guns acquired due to inheritance, relocation, gift, etc. will be $25 per gun. The fee for guns purchased from other dealers or catalog and internet
sales companies such as CDNN, SOG, Cabelas, Inter Ordnance, Centerfire
Systems, etc. (basically any gun that you could have just as easily
bought from us) will be 10% of the price of the gun or, in the absence
of a receipt, 10% of the publically advertised price or $25, whichever
is higher. If it is a gun that we CANNOT get, the fee will remain at $25.
3.
The charge for outgoing guns is $20 + actual shipping charges. Guns
will only be sent to dealers and we must have FFL from the receiving dealer
BEFORE shipping. Guns will be inspected and packaged by us.
SHIPPING GUNS TO US
Firearms or portions thereof MUST be preceded by fax or e-mail or accompanied by a letter that lists, in detail,
everything that you want done to your gun and any special instructions,
if any. The letter must also contain your phone number, payment information and return
shipping address.
Shipping a firearm can be confusing and if not done properly, can
also get you in trouble with the law. The instructions below will
provide you with everything that you need to know about legally
shipping your gun to us for repair or customization.
FEDERAL LAW
First, let's get the Federal requirements out on the table. Federal law does not prohibit you from sending a firearm to a dealer, manufacturer or gunsmith
for repair or modification without going through an FFL on your end.
The dealer, manufacturer or gunsmith can also send it back directly to
you. Federal law requires that you inform the carrier that the package
contains a firearm but it must NOT so indicate in any way on the
outside of the package. Individual state laws may vary.
Federal law prohibits non-FFL holders (you) from shipping handguns
via U.S. Mail. Handguns can only be shipped via contract carrier (UPS,
FedEx, etc.) Although Federal law does not require it, these carriers
require that handguns be shipped Overnight. Yes, you can
tell them that the package contains something other than a firearm to
save Overnight fees but then you will be violating Federal law by not
properly informing the carrier and, if lost or stolen, your insurance claim will not be honored.
Long guns (rifles and shotguns) can be mailed if you wish and are
subject to no special requirements other than informing the carrier and
not indicating on the package that it contains a firearm.
Some shippers may require that an FFL be involved on both ends but
this is NOT Federal law. You will also sometimes find that some clerks
that work for these shippers do not know their own regulations and may make
it harder on you than it really has to be. It would behoove you to KNOW
what the carriers regulations and both Federal and State laws say before you start.
So, let us give you your options to ship HANDGUNS.
NOTE: A handgun frame only is still
considered a firearm and subject to all laws and carrier regulations
that govern the shipping of handguns.
1. The simplest, surest and least confusing way (also the most expensive) is to just securely package your UNLOADED
handgun in a sturdy box and ship it to us via UPS or FedEx Overnight.
UPS will usually allow you to send it Next Day Airsaver if that service
is available in your area. FedEx will usually make you send it Priority
Overnight. It will cost you between $30 and $70 each way depending on
what part of the country you live in.
2. The cheapest is to have an FFL mail it to us. If you have a
dealer that you do business with that will send it to us via USPS
Priority Mail, it will only cost you around $20 plus
whatever your dealer may charge. We can mail it back to your dealer and
you can pick it up from them. Of course, the dealer may charge you a
transfer fee to pick it up but it will probably still be cheaper than
paying Overnight fees.
3. A combination of these two methods.
4. If other arrangements are not made, we will return your gun via UPS Next Day Air Saver if it is available to your location.
INSURANCE
You are responsible for providing insurance on your gun when you
send it. We will not be responsible for loss or damage sustained during
shipping. We will insure your gun for return shipping and add the cost
of shipping and insurance to your final bill.
PAYMENT for SERVICES
Payment must accompany gun when it is shipped to us or other arrangements made before work begins!
ACCEPTABLE FORMS OF PAYMENT- We take most major credit cards
either by phone, fax or you can include the CC#, expiration date and 3-digit security code on the note with your instructions and include it with the gun. We will also accept
personal or company checks with copy of current drivers license and
valid phone number. Checks will be cleared electronically immediately. Of course, we accept money orders, cashiers checks
and cash as well. RESIDENTS OF NEW MEXICO PLEASE ADD 7% SALES TAX.
THE NORMAL TURN-AROUND TIME FOR MODIFICATIONS AND REPAIRS IS 6 WEEKS OR LESS BUT MAY TAKE AS LONG AS 8, DEPENDING ON WORKLOAD.
